Warsaw was the host for this prestigious pre-season friendly, but the Viola missed Giuseppe Rossi, Juan Guillermo Cuadrado and Facundo Roncaglia.Carlo Ancelotti fielded many of his top stars, including Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez.
The first shot on target after three minutes came from Khouma Babacar, who forced a save out of Keylor Navas. However, Ronaldo went on the counter from that Viola corner and was on hand to tap in an Angel Di Maria assist.
In an entertaining game, Norberto Neto parried from Ronaldo, Babacar’s header and a Mario Gomez strike were just wide.
Gomez drew Fiorentina level with a wonderful diving header on Alberto Aquilani’s chipped cross. Aquilani almost made it 2-1 moments later, his spectacular volley from a tight angle thumping the bar.
Di Maria had the ball in the net, but only after he had been flagged offside, then at the other end Real risked scoring an own goal with a Nacho Fernandez deflection on to the side-netting.
Karim Benzema came off the bench and had a goal ruled offside, but Fiorentina went in front with an ex-Real Madrid player. Marcos Alonso cut in from the left and his angled drive went in despite an attempted goalline clearance.
Only a desperate Navas save prevented Juan Manuel Vargas making it 3-1 with a powerful finish and Di Maria’s cheeky lob was wide of the target.
Josip Ilicic fired inches past the post in stoppages to waste a promising counter-attack.
There was a bizarre moment when a pitch invader tried to blend into the crowd during a corner, wearing a full Real Madrid kit, but he was spotted and removed by the officials.
