Manchester City 'close in on £30m Wilfried Bony deal'

Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a deal worth in the region of £30 million for Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony.
The Ivory Coast international, who will represent his country at the upcoming African Cup of Nations, was expected to be one of the first players targeted following the opening of the transfer window. And City have made their move, according to multiple reports, holding discussions with Swansea regarding a deal for the 26-year-old. The BBC says the two clubs are in “advanced talks” and that a figure in excess of £30m will be required to sign Bony, who joined Swansea for £12m in the summer of 2013.

Sky Sports put the transfer fee at £30m while reporting “the two sides are not far apart on their valuation of the 26-year-old.” A deal will not be formalised before Bony returns from Equatorial Guinea but it seems increasingly likely he will join an already deadly City attack for the second half of the season.

WHAT MANUEL PELLEGRINI SAID Speaking during a press conference on New Year's Eve: "I think that is just one of the 20 or 30 names I have read from the beginning of the season until today that we are (supposedly) interested in. I don't think we are going to be too busy in this window. We have restrictions about the amount of money and about the number of players we can put in the Champions League, so I don't think it will be a special transfer window for our team."

OUR VIEW You can’t argue with the fact Bony was the highest scorer of the calendar year and he has impressed on a weekly basis for a weaker team. He guarantees goals; the only question is whether he is ready to join a rotation system as both Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko are key players for City as well. £30m feels like rather a lot but his record is extremely good and at 26 he has plenty left in the tank.
